.   Begun in 2002 by a small team of mathematicians and linguists in the USA, the project expanded to Europe, Russia, and China. 

.   Participants now include linguists, philologists, physicists, educators, students, entrepreneurs, mathematicians, and computer scientists. 

.   The work has both public policy and commercial implications potentially impacting such matters as education policy, national productivity, intellectual property and technology transfer.
